With a strong focus on pedagogical documentation,
where do ethics lie? I have been interested in pedagogical documentation, but
not solely from an early childhood education perspective, but also from the
perspective from our primary and junior grades. As teachers, it is our responsibility
to ensure that when we are working with children to document their learning,
that it is done in an ethical manner. But what does that mean? The kindergarten
program manual simply states that “[i]n all aspects of pedagogical
documentation, educators must also recognize their responsibility to represent
others in ways that are ethical and respectful” (Ministry of Education, 2016). Educators
must not be biased when working with children and their families through this
documentation process, children will see, learn and document from their point
of view, which would be vastly different from parents and educators.
